Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU) is the largest packet size permitted for Internet transmission. Whenever the information is sent from one point to another, like from a web server to a computer, this data is broken up into packets. If the packets are too large for the connection, the device will experience packet loss or dropping Internet connection.

If you want to know the correct MTU size for your network, you’ll have to do a specific Packet InterNet Groper (PING) test on the destination you’re trying to go to.

To configure the MTU settings of your router, follow the steps below.

1. Log in the the router's web interface.

2. Click Connectivity.

3. Click the Internet Settings tab.

4. In the MTU section, click the drop-down arrow and set it to Manual then enter the recommended MTU Size for your router.

In this example, an MTU size of 1480 is used.

5. Click Apply.

6. When prompted to save your changes, click Yes.

Your device will automatically get the MTU size every time it connects to the network.

Expanding your network

Aside from configuring the Linksys routers’ features, you can still do more. By simply connecting additional devices, you can now extend your wireless signal to accommodate the hard-to-reach areas at home and even connect more devices (both wired and wireless) for gaming or entertainment.
