The External Storage feature of the Linksys MX4000 Series WiFi 6 System allows you to connect an external storage device to the USB port on the node and share the entire drive.
The Linksys MX4000 Series routers feature one USB 3.0 port for the storage drive. If you have more than one of these routers, you can connect a USB hard drive to each node.
Virtual printing is not supported.

Access the dashboard page. Then tap on the menu icon and go to External Storage.
The following settings will be displayed:
- The node’s name (e.g., Family Room and Living Room).
- The Refresh icon (located in the External Storage header)
- The Eject icon – Tap on it to safely remove the drive. This will also prevent file corruption.
- The following hard drive details will also be displayed:
- The name of the hard drive/partition
- The storage capacity and total storage used for every hard drive or partition
- The IP address for SMB access – computers within the network can access the connected storage device using this IP address
- Authentication - To enable it, tap Authentication and toggle the sliding switch to the right. Enter your preferred username and password then tap on Save.
Authentication requirements:
The username should have a minimum of four and a maximum of 12 alphanumeric characters while the password should have a minimum of four and a maximum of 50 alphanumeric characters. Both can include valid characters such as an underscore ( _ ) or a dash ( - ).

Access the dashboard. Then, go to External Storage under Smart Wi-Fi Tools.
The following settings will be displayed:
- The node’s name. In the example above, the Parent node is used.
- The Refresh button
- The Eject icon – Click on it to safely remove the drive. This will also prevent file corruption.
- The following hard drive details will also be displayed:
- The name of the hard drive/partition
- The storage capacity and total storage used for every hard drive or partition
- The IP address for SMB access - computers within the network can access the connected storage device using this IP address
- Authentication - To enable it, simply toggle the sliding switch to the ON position. Enter your preferred username and password and click on Apply to save your changes then click Ok.

Network File Sharing (SMB)
This section will guide you on how to access the storage device connected to the node. The Linksys MX4000 Series supports SMB v2.0.
To access the drive, look for its IP address either in the Linksys app or the LinksysSmartWiFi.com of your Linksys MX4000 Series and do the following:
For Windows computers:
Enter “\\” followed by the IP address of the storage drive you want to access into the Windows Explorer field, then hit [ENTER].
For Mac computers:
Navigate to Go > Connect to Server and enter “smb://” followed by the IP address of the storage drive you want to access, and then click Connect.
