OpenWRT allows you to install additional features, tools, or services to your router. This article will guide you on the basic installation of a software package.
For support related to software packages, refer to the OpenWRT community for assistance.
Please be aware that each time you reset or upgrade the OpenWRT image, all installed packages will be lost and must be installed again.
1. Log in to the router's web interface.
2. Click on System.
3. Go to Software.
4. Click on the Configure opkg... button.
5. Click Save.
6. Click Update lists... to update the content.
7. Click Dismiss.
8. Click the Installed tab and you will see a list of packages that are already installed.
9. To install a new software package, click the Available tab. If you know the name of the package, enter the name in the Filter field or go through the list and click on Install.
In this example, nlbwmon was used. Enter "nlbwmon" in the Filter field. Once the package appears in the list, click Install.
10. Click on Install again.
11. Click Dismiss.
12. Now if you search for the name again, you will notice that the button shows Installed which means the software is now installed on your router.
You have now successfully added a new software package to your router.
Depending on the new software that you have installed, you may notice new options in the web interface. For instance, if you installed a Bandwidth Monitor, the menu would now include a dedicated section named Bandwidth Monitor.
