If you need to reset the parent router (router connected to your modem), there are a few methods on how to set up your router and child nodes again. This article applies to Linksys MBE7000, MX6200, and LN1400 models for DHCP (Automatic) internet connection type.

Before you begin:

  •
  • If your service provider is using PPPoE, you can follow these setup instructions.
  • Write down the WiFi name, password, and key found at the bottom of the router.
  • Parent router/node: The parent router is the router that will be connected to your modem.
  • Child node: An additional node used to extend your WiFi such as another Linksys Mesh router.
  • Mixed environments: A network with Linksys Intelligent Mesh™ nodes and Linksys Cognitive™ Mesh nodes.
    • In a mix of Linksys MBE7000 and MX6200 nodes in the network, the Linksys MBE7000 should be the parent node for better WiFi performance.

Choose one of the following setup methods:

  •
  • Pair button setup: This is supported on the latest Linksys firmware release. A mobile device or computer is required to customize your settings.
  • Plug-and-Play setup wizard: A mobile device or computer is required to customize your settings.
  • Web browser setup: A computer is required to customize your settings.
  • 5-Button Push setup: A mobile device or computer is required to customize your settings.
  • Linksys app setup: A mobile device with the latest Linksys app installed is required to customize your settings.

In these examples, the Linksys MBE7000 is the parent node.

Pair button setup

This is the easiest and quickest way to set up the parent and child nodes simultaneously. A mobile device or computer is required to customize your settings.

The Pair button is located between the Reset and the ON/OFF toggle switch at the bottom of the router. The Pair button is supported on the latest Linksys firmware of the Linksys MX6200 (1.0.8.xxxxx) and MBE7000 (1.0.11.xxxx).

1. Gather all your equipment in the same area as your modem. After setup, you can relocate your child nodes.

2. Remove any existing router:

a. I have a modem with a separate router.

      • Disconnect your existing router
      • Powercycle your modem.
      • Wait until your modem has rebooted and go to the next step.

b. I have a WiFi router and modem in one device, or I do not have any existing routers in my home.

      • Go to the next step

3. Connect the parent router with an ethernet cable from the Internet port to your modem and power it ON.

4. If adding child nodes, place all child nodes near the parent router, no more than 10 ft away, preferably in the same room, and power them ON. Wait until all your nodes have a solid blue light, indicating they are ready for setup.

Do not plug any ethernet devices into any of the child nodes' ports during setup.

If any of the nodes do not have a solid blue light, reset them by holding down the reset button for about 15 seconds, then waiting until the light becomes solid blue.

5. Press the Pair button for 1 second on the parent router.

This Pair button is supported on the latest firmware. If the button is not working for you, you can set up the network using other methods.

6. The light on the parent router will begin blinking, once this light turns solid white, child node pairing will begin.

7. Wait for the light on all the child nodes to turn solid white. This may take a few more seconds as the router scans and detects unconfigured nodes.

8. Once all your nodes have a solid white light, connect a mobile device or computer to the WiFi name of the parent router.

The default WiFi credentials are located at the bottom of the parent router.

Your network is now ready to use. To customize your network settings, continue to the next step.

9. Open a desktop browser and enter "www.myrouter.info" or "myrouter.info" in the Address bar and hit [ENTER]. You can also use the IP address of the parent router which is https://192.168.1.1.

10. If you receive any browser warning messages, follow these instructions to bypass the browser message.

11. Enter the router’s default password. The password is the same as the default WiFi password located on the bottom of the parent router connected to your modem, then click Next.

12. Customize your WiFi name and password and click Next. The WiFi password is case-sensitive.

13. Enable the Guest network as needed, you can change this later at any time after setup. Click Next.

14. Enable the Night Mode feature. You can change this setting after setup using the Linksys app. Click Next.

15. Wait while settings are being saved. Connect your mobile device or computer using the new WiFi name when prompted, enter the password if needed, hit Next, and then click Finish.

16. If you have more nodes to add or one of your child nodes' light did not turn solid white, click + Add Nodes to try adding the child node again. Otherwise, tap on the www.myrouter.info link. You can also enter "myrouter.info" or "https://192.168.1.1" in your browser Address bar and hit [ENTER].

17. Click the Reset password link.

18. Enter the Recovery Key located on the parent node connected to your modem, then create a new router/admin password and click Submit. You will then land on your network’s dashboard.

If the light on the child node is red, hold down the reset button on this node for about 15 to 20 seconds. Wait for the light to turn solid blue and then click +Add Nodes again to try again.

14. The router will begin scanning for unconfigured nodes.

15. Once the child nodes have been added to the network, you will see a list of your nodes. Click Next.

Child node not found or not showing on the list?

  • Check the light on the child node, if it’s blinking white or solid white the node has been added successfully. The node may be taking a little bit longer to show on the list. Just click Next to continue. Once the light on the child nodes is solid white, you can check the Device list in the web interface of the router or the Network Administration section in the Linksys app if the child nodes have been added.
  • If the light on the child node is solid blue, try clicking on +Add Nodes again. Make sure the node is no more than 10 ft away from the parent router. You can also complete the wizard and follow these instructions to try other methods of adding a child node.

Once the child nodes have been detected, the light on the child nodes will also begin to blink. This means that pairing is in progress.

9. Wait for the light on all your nodes to be solid white, which indicates they are ready to use.

10. Once all your nodes display a solid white light, your network is ready to use. You can relocate the child nodes and connect your clients to the WiFi network. The default WiFi credentials are located on the parent router's product label.

11. Once all your nodes have a solid white light, to customize your router settings open a web browser, go to "www.myrouter.info" or "myrouter.info" or use the default IP address, "https://192.168.1.1" and press [ENTER].
