Single Port Forwarding allows you to set up public services one by one on your network such as web servers, FTP servers, email servers, or other specialized internet applications such as videoconferencing or online gaming.

Basic Requirements

  • Note the port you need to forward. The service ports have different assigned numbers depending on the type of service, hardware, or application. Refer to your documentation or contact your device manufacturer for details.
  • Set a static IP address on the device. You need to assign a static IP address to the computer or device you are configuring for port forwarding. This way, the port forwarding request will be sent to and received from the same IP address.

Follow the steps below to set up Single Port Forwarding on the router.

1. Log in to the router's web interface. If you haven't set up a Linksys cloud account, follow these steps to create one or simply log in using the default IP address of the router which is 192.168.1.1.

2. On the Navigation pane under Router Settings, select Security.

3. On the Security window, select Apps and Gaming tab. Once done, select the Single Port Forwarding sub-tab and click the Add a new Single Port Forwarding button.

 4. Enter the details of the device you want to forward. Make sure to enter the Application name, External and Internal Ports, the Protocol to be used, and the Device IP# (the static IP address of your device) correctly, click on the Enabled box, and then, click Save.

In the example below, we will port forward a home camera to enable its remote access feature, this means you can access your monitoring camera even when you’re away from your home network. This camera utilizes Port 80, which is the regular internet port number (HTTPS) so the camera can be accessed over the internet. The 192.168.1.11 represents the camera’s static IP address.

It is recommended to set the Protocol to the default Both option, so it can utilize both TCP and UDP options to ensure smooth and fast connectivity.

5. Click Apply then click Ok.
