Overview of the Wi-Fi Settings of the Linksys Atlas Pro 6 Dual-Band Mesh WiFi

The Linksys Atlas Pro 6 Dual-Band Mesh WiFi supports the latest Wi-Fi® 6 (802.11ax) standard to deliver next-level streaming and gaming. It offers faster WiFi performance for lag-free online gaming and simultaneous streaming to any device.

This article will show you an overview of the Wi-Fi Settings feature of the Linksys MX5500.

Advanced Wi-Fi Setting Security Type 



The Linksys MX5500 supports the following WiFi security options:

 
  • WPA2™//WPA3™ Mixed Personal – Recommended for home use ONLY if all nodes are up to date with firmware that supports WPA3/WPA2 Mixed Mode. Use WPA3 with SAE encryption when possible and WPA2 with AES encryption for older devices. Some devices might not be able to connect. Use WPA2 Personal if connection problems persist. 
  • WPA3 Personal Only – Not recommended unless all child nodes have WPA3 capability and are up to date with the latest firmware. Older devices will not be able to connect to networks using WPA3 Only encryption. 
  • WPA2 Personal – Recommended for home use. Connect your devices with a password using AES encryption.
  • Enhanced Open Only – Recommended for public use. Supported devices may access an encrypted connection without a password. Unsupported clients will not connect. 
  • Open and Enhanced Open – Recommended for public use. Supported devices may access an encrypted connection without a password. Unsupported clients will connect to an unencrypted (open) network. It has the same concept as Enhanced Open Only but this offers support for legacy clients that do not support Opportunistic Wireless Encryption (OWE) as well as clients that support OWE. 
  • Open – This is not recommended. Anyone can connect to the network.
 
Dynamic Frequency Selection (DFS) 

Dynamic Frequency Selection (DFS) is disabled by default. DFS enables WiFi to use the 5 GHz frequencies that are generally reserved for radar systems. The benefit of using DFS channels is less WiFi interference and better WiFi performance.

If there are no radar systems nearby or your router is not in a saturated WiFi area, your neighbors may not be using a router with DFS support. This benefits you by using DFS channels for increased 5 GHz speeds and better WiFi performance.

When DFS is enabled, the router can expand the channel width from the traditional 20/40/80 MHz to 160 MHz. WiFi clients would need to support 160 MHz to benefit from the higher channel width.

However, if the router detects that a radar system is using the same DFS channel, it will automatically switch the channel to either another DFS channel or a non-DFS channel which means 5 GHz clients may momentarily disconnect until a new channel is set.

If you have child nodes in your network that do not support DFS channels, you should turn ON DFS. Otherwise, your child nodes will not be able to connect to the network. If you have clients that do not support DFS channels, those clients will end up connecting to your 2.4 GHz band instead.
WPS Wi-Fi Protected Setup™ (WPS) is disabled by default with the latest firmware. To use a WPS connection, log in to the Linksys app or LinksysSmartWiFi.com page and enable it first.

Connect using WPS using either the Linksys app or press the external WPS button located at the bottom of the node. WPS pairing takes up to 2 minutes to detect the WPS client.
