Connecting devices via WPS on your Linksys router

Wi-Fi Protected Setup™ (WPS) allows seamless wireless connection for supported devices like printers. This article outlines three methods based on your client device.

Before you begin:

If you encounter problems with the WPS setup, such as Connection Failure! Your client device failed to connect to the network. Refer back to your client device for further instructions. Press "OK" to continue., you may need to manually configure your router’s WiFi settings.
WPS sets up one device at a time. The WPS button is typically found on the front or back panel of your Linksys device. Some Wireless-G routers may not support WPS, so check your product documentation for details.

Using the WPS button

Use this method if your client device has a WPS button or if it prompts you to press the WPS button on your router.

1. Locate and press the WPS button on your router.

Alternatively, you can configure WPS through your router’s web interface by clicking the WPS button. Open a web browser, enter "192.168.1.1" in the Address bar, and press [Enter]. You will be asked for your login details. When prompted, leave the User name field blank, enter admin as the password, and click OK.

2. Within 2 minutes, press the WPS button on your client device to connect to the router’s WiFi network.

After the process, your device should be connected to your router via WiFi.

Using the device's WPS PIN

Use this method if your client device supports WPS via a Personal Identification Number (PIN) and you already have the required PIN. If you're unsure where to find it, check your client device's product documentation.

1. Open a web browser, enter "192.168.1.1" in the address bar, and press [Enter] to access your router’s web interface.

2. When prompted for login details, leave the User name field blank, enter “admin” in the Password field, then click OK.

3. Click on Wireless > Wi-Fi Protected Setup™.

4. Enter your client device’s PIN in the designated field, then click Register to proceed.

Using the router’s WPS PIN

Use this method if your client device asks for the router’s PIN.

1. Open a web browser, enter "192.168.1.1" in the address bar, and press [Enter] to access your router’s web interface.

2. When prompted for login details, leave the User name field blank, enter “admin” in the Password field, then click OK.

3. Click Wireless > Wi-Fi Protected Setup™.

4. Take note of the router’s PIN on the screen.

Alternatively, you can also find the Linksys router’s PIN at the bottom of your router, together with the Serial No. and MAC Address information.

The router’s PIN may vary according to the device used.

5. When prompted, enter your router’s unique WPS PIN to proceed.

6. Enter the PIN and follow the onscreen instructions for your client device. Your device will then connect to the router wirelessly using WPS.
