Setting up your Linksys parent node for Starry ISP
print icon

This article will teach you how to set up a Linksys parent node for Starry ISP. In this article, the Linksys MX5501ST for Starry ISP is used.

Before you begin:

  • Parent node: This is the node/router connected to your modem.
  • Child node: This is another node use to extend your wireless network, such as another Linksy MX5501ST.
  • Write down the WiFi name and password located on the product label of the parent node.
  • With the latest firmware, the Linksys router supports Auto Configuration Server (ACS) with Starry’s internet connection. Meaning that once there is a connection from the internet port on the router to the Starry equipment, the router will self-configure itself. The solid purple light on the router will begin to flash white, when the light is solid blue, the router is ready to use. Do NOT attempt to set up the router with the Linksys app, attempting to do this while the router is going through ACS setup, the Linksys app will fail to detect it. Wait until the router has a solid blue light, you can then link your router to your Linksys cloud account using the Linksys app.

NOTE:  A Linksys MX5501ST-RF with older firmware will require using the Linksys app to set up. Once you connect your node to your Starry equipment, the node’s light will turn solid purple which means it’s ready for setup. If the solid purple light does not begin to flash white within 2 minutes, use the Linksys app to set it up.

  • Admin password - Once the parent node has internet connection, the default admin password will automatically change to the default WiFi password located on the product label on the bottom of the router.

Requirements

1.  Linksys Mesh Router
2.  Internet connection with Starry ISP
3.  An iOS or Android™ mobile device with the latest version of the Linksys app. In this article an iOS device is used.

Directions

Step 1:
Power ON the Linksys router and connect an ethernet cable to the internet port on the router and to the Starry equipment. Wait until the light is solid purple, meaning it’s ready to be set up.

Step 2:
The solid purple light will begin to flash white, meaning it’s going through automatic configuration.  Once the Linksys light on the router is solid blue, the router is online and ready to use.

NOTE: Don't try to set up the node with the Linksys app, while the node is going through ACS - the Linksys app will not find the node, wait until the node configures itself and the status light is solid blue. If the status light doesn’t turn solid blue, make sure the internet cable is plugged into the internet port. If the node still does not get online, you may contact Starry.

Step 3:
Connect your WiFi devices to the WiFi name which is Starryxxxxx or VelopSetupxxx. The WiFi credentials are located on the product label.

Step 4:
After the node is online, you can link your network to your Linksys cloud account. To manage the node with the Linksys app, make sure to connect your mobile device to the router’s WiFi name.

NOTE: You can also connect your computer to the default WiFi name and log in to the LinksysSmartWiFi.com page.

Step 5:
Download and launch the Linksys app and tap on Manage Your Wi-Fi.

Step 6:
Enter your credentials and tap Log in.

If you don’t have an account, tap on Create an account and tap Add to Account

In the Router Password field, enter the default WiFi password located on the product label. If you have customized the password, enter your password, then tap on Add to Account.

Your network is now linked to your Linksys cloud account.
